Abstract
146,631. Paine, H. Scott-, and Supermarine Aviation Works, Ltd. April 11, 1919. Planes, disposition of, and connecting to machine.-The tail-plane is secured away from the body A by struts D<2> attached at one end to opposite sides of the body and at the other end to the front spar B at points spaced apart, while two additional struts D<1> are secured together at one end and to the spar B, and at the other end to the body close to the struts D<2>. A vertical strut D may also be used. The rear spar B<1> is secured by a vertical strut C and inclined struts C<1>, the points of attachment to the spars of the front and rear struts being preferably in alinement. The struts may be adjustable, and the struts D<1> should preferably be in compression initially. Bracing- wires F are also used.
