Abstract

1465165 Stabilizing polyacetals SOC ITALIANA RESINE SIR SpA 22 May 1974 [15 June 1973] 22955/74 Heading C3P Oxymethylene polymers are stabilized by reaction with an etherification agent in the presence of an acid or acid ester catalyst and in a medium comprising a solvent and a non-solvent (for the polymer). Examples refer to the stabilization of polyformaldehyde or a trioxanethylene oxide copolymer by reaction with triethylorthoformate or -acetate or di(methoxymethyl)ether in the presence of fuming sulphuric acid, diethyl sulphate, p-toluene sulphonic acid, phosphoric acid or trichloracetic acid and as reaction medium dimethyl formamide/C 10-14 n-paraffins, N,N-dimethylacetamide/C 10-14 - n - paraffins, dimethylsulphoxide/ dodecylbenzene, caprolactone/dodecane and dimethyl sulphoxide/dodecane, as well as comparative procedures using the solvent or non- solvent atoms.
