Abstract
1465044 Gas turbine plant - air intake systems DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 7 May 1974 [8 May 1973] 21975/73 Heading F1G [Also in Division B1] A parallel plate impingement separator for separating water from an air-stream, e.g. for a marine gas turbine engine, has a plurality of channels 14 defined between adjacent vertical faces 2 and 3 of plates 4 and 5 each adjacent face having a contour of approximately sinusoidal form with the wavelength of the contour decreasing and the amplitude increasing in the downstream direction, the crosssectional area of said channels from one end to the other remains constant. Drainage ducts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 are provided at the ends of concave portions, and a duct 11 upstream of an apex of a surface contour. Apices of the faces may be extended Fig. 2 (not shown) to maintain a uniform crosssectional area through the channel and avoid adiabatic expansions at the apices. Solid deposits collected in the ducts may be washed out by a closed washing system of pump, accumulator and filter.
