Abstract

1465040 Wood-foam laminates for model aircraft D A HARDMAN and S KAY 5 April 1974 [5 April 1973] 16299/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division A6] A model aircraft fuselage includes a laminate of thickness less than 10 mm. comprising a sheet of rigid or semi-rigid expanded or foamed plastics, e.g. polystyrene, polyurethane, having an external sheet, board or veneer comprising wood and of thickness not greater than 1 mm., e.g. obeche veneer or plywood. The materials may be bonded by a water-based latex. The laminate may be butt-jointed to build up larger structures. A similar external layer may be present on the other face of the foam. Balsa wood strips may be provided along the edge(s) of the plastics layer. In an embodiment, the fuselage body panels partially comprise two- and three-layer laminates as above, the nose and tail being formed of balsa wood. The laminates may be pre-formed or assembled in situ.
