Abstract

1465001 Bleaching pulp SCOTT PAPER CO 11 March 1974 10790/74 Heading D1P Kraft pulp is bleached using gaseous oxygen in an alkaline medium using untreated white liquor from a Kraft recovery system as a source of alkali, the liquor having an alkali content from 1 to 8% by weight of the pulp. The bleaching effluent may be recycled directly into the Kraft recovery system, preferably at the brown stock washer or the lime kiln scrubber. The sulphidity of the white liquor may be from 20-40%. The oxygen treatment is preferably carried out in the presence of magnesium carbonate in a Parr bomb at elevated temperature (100‹C upwards) and pressure (100 psi upwards).
