Abstract

1464880 Inductors and transformers HULL CORP 26 July 1974 [21 Jan 1974] 33145/74 Heading H1T An electrical inductor or transformer (Fig. 3, not shown), comprises multiple turns of electrically conductive material forming a coil 10 with a central opening 16, a shield 22, 24, (26), 28 of magnetic metal at least partially surrounding the coil and a rod 30 of magnetic metal mounted in engagement with one side 28 of the shield for movement through the opening in order to vary the spacing between the inner end of the rod and the confronting opposite side 22 of the shield. The coil may be a continuous spiral winding of thick films with dielectric sheets, or thin films using printed circuit techniques. For microminiaturisation, vapour deposition is used, on a dielectric substrate 18 having a central hole 20. The rod may be in the form of a screw engaging a nut 32 which is secured to the top plate 28 of the shield. The terminals 12, 14 of the inductor extend laterally from opposite sides of the coil. In the case of the transformer (Figs. 3 to 7, not shown), the terminals (36), (38) of the primary winding (34) extend from one side of the coils and the terminals (42),(44) of the secondary winding (40) which is deposited on the primary, extend from the other side of the coil.
