Abstract

1464856 Dispensing materials R H LEE 19 April 1974 [24 Jan 1973] 3638/73 Heading B8S Apparatus for dispensing a particulate material comprises a frusto-conical chamber 1 having a sleeve 11 to which a cylindrical tube 12, which contains the material to be dispensed, is attached by means of clamp screws 15, the chamber 1 and tube 12 being rotatable relative to a plate 3 which is fixedly mounted on a fixed shaft 5, the material passing from the tube 12 through an inlet 4 in the plate 3 into the chamber 1 from which it is dispensed at an outlet 2. The portion 7 of the wall of the chamber 1 which at any instant is lowermost is either horizontal as shown, or else slopes upwardly at a small angle towards the outlet 2. A baffle plate 6 which is fixedly mounted on the shaft 5 reduces any tendency of the material to surge, and a brush 9 is mounted on the shaft 5 and engages the inner wall of the chamber 1. The rotation of the chamber 1 and tube 12 is effected by an electric motor (16) which drives a pinion 14 which meshes with a gear-wheel 13 fixed to the sleeve 11. In the embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the material-containing tube (20) is non- rotatable, while the frusto-conical chamber (23) is rotatable. An end plate (24) is attached by means of ties (25) to the chamber (23). In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown) the material outlet (32) is provided in the wall of the frustoconical chamber. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 (not shown) the frusto-conical chamber (40) and tube (41) are rotatable about a pivot axis (42) to enable the rate of flow of material to be varied through the outlet (43).
