Abstract

1444265 Discharging liquids from flexible containers W J JINOTTI 1 Nov 1973 [5 March 1973] 51667/73 Heading F1R [Also in Division A5] The apparatus comprises a first open box member 30 into which a similar member 50 is moved telescopically against springs 160 by an operating means e.g. a screw threaded shaft 140 engaging a nut 150 and rotated by a handle 100 to provide a space 170 for a fluid (e.g. blood) filled bag 180 between a wall 52 of the second box member and the adjacent lower wall of a frame 80 which encloses both box members. The nut is retained and prevented from rotating in a tube 70 of hexagonal cross-section attached to the wall 52 of the second box at its centre. A bearing 94 supports the thrust from the shaft via a hub 114 against the lip 92 of a depression in the wall 32 of the first box member. The hub is held towards the bearing by an annular member 130 so that when a blood bag is in position reverse rotation of the shaft removes the nut from contact with the lip 73 thus allowing the springs to apply force to the bag via the wall 52 causing its contents to be discharged from an outlet tube (not shown). A hanger (38) Fig. 5 (not shown) is secured outside the front wall 34 of the first box member and comprises a pivoted handle (42) in a frame (40). A rigid hanger (58) Fig. 4 (not shown) is secured to the wall 52 of the second box member. An electrically heated metal or plastics plate (164), Fig. 2 (not shown) may be hooked to the hanger (58), contacting and thus heating the bag. The box members and frame may be of metal or plastics.
