Abstract

1463992 Offshore structures SOC ENTREPOSE G T M POUR LES TRAVAUX PETROLIERS MARITIMES 28 Nov 1974 [29 Nov 1973 18 June 1974] 51601/74 Heading E1H An offshore structure comprises vertical legs for supporting a deck and a base formed by a rigid floor and a peripheral wall consisting of a stack of hollow annular members which can be used for ballasting and/or storage purposes. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) the wall is constituted by three superimposed tubes 6a, 6b, 6c and the floor 2 is stiffened by concentric members 3, non-radial members 4 and taller radial bulkheads 7 e.g. 7a1, 7a2 which divide the base into open topped compartments. The structure is towed to its site with these compartments at least partially filled to provide stability and there sunk by flooding compartments in the tubes and ducts in the legs which have valves 10a-d for controllably connecting these ducts to the ambient medium. In plan the base may be circular, polygonal square or rectangular and may have a roof structure (not shown) above the floor 2 which with the peripheral wall encloses a chamber for storage purposes. To secure the platform to the bottom, the floor 2 may carry on its underside depending projections which engage the bottom material or it may have apertures with depending divergent nozzles through which gravel passes from storage compartments on the floor 2 when the apertures are opened by remote control (Figs. 9 and 10: not shown). In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the peripheral wall of the base is formed by one tube supported by two vertical circular walls and the space so defined may be used for ballasting or storage. A perforated roof structure may be provided above the floor and projections on the underside of the floor define compartments which can be partially evacuated to create a pressure gradient and thereby facilitate penetration of the projections into the bottom material.
