Abstract

1463976 Windscreen cleaning systems LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 19 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 30671/73 Heading A4F In a vehicle windscreen or headlamp wiper and washer system, a wiper motor 1 and a washer motor 9 are energized simultaneously on closure of a switch 3 (to connect lines 5 and 6), and means is provided for stopping the washer motor 9 after a predetermined period. The illustrated means comprises a relay coil 18 in series with the motor 9 and short circuited via lines 11, 13, 16 and contacts 12 and 14, 15, the contacts 12 being separated after a predetermined period by the expansion due to heating of a strip 17. The motor 9 then stops, the current therethrough being reduced by the resistance of the coil 18. The energized relay coil 18 moves a contact 19 into engagement with a contact 20 to short-circuit the motor 9 after the contacts 12 have re-closed on cooling of the bimetallic strip, thereby maintaining the coil 18 energized as long as the switch 3 is closed.
