Abstract

1463974 Satin white ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO Ltd 24 May 1974 [29 May 1973] 25609/73 Heading C4A [Also in Division C1] An aqueous slurry of a particulate solid material which is capable of soaking water, e.g. satin white 3 CaO. Al 2 O 3 . 3 CaSO 4 . 31 H 2 O is prepared by treating a mix of the material and water with a water soluble chemical deflocculating agent to form a first aqueous slurry which is dewatered, e.g. with a pressure filter operating at at least 250 p.s.i.g. to form a cake with reduced water content and thence subjecting the cake to mechanical work which comprises at least one cycle of applying a stress to the cake and relaxing the applied stress to form a final aqueous slurry of the material. The mechanical work may be performed by a jaw crusher or dough mixture of the sigma or Z-blade type. Preferably the initial mixture contains at least 20% by weight of solids and the dewatered cake has a solids concentration of at least 50% by weight of solids.
