Abstract

1385757 Treating calcium sulphate GIULINI GmbH Gebr 13 Sept 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 42570/72 Heading C1A α-Calcium sulphate hemihydrate is obtained from a suspension of the same by continuously filtering the suspension through a pressure filter at a pressure of 0À5 to 2 atm. gauge and a temperature above the hemihydrate-dihydrate transition point and washing the filtered material with water at a temperature above 50‹ C. and a pressure greater than atmospheric. The wash water temperature is suitably from 85‹ to 105‹ C. and used in an amount 0À1 to 51. per kg. The washed hemihydrate may be mixed with water, ground and the pH is then adjusted to 4À5 to 4À8 by the addition of sulphuric acid.
