Abstract

1463485 Load handling pallets G P G HOLDINGS Ltd 10 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 28153/73 Heading B8H A pallet for use in the handling of kegs or other substantially cylindrical articles comprises longitudinally extending wooden cross bearers 1 to which are secured upper and lower main bearers 2, the latter being individually moulded in plastics material, the upper main bearers 2 having recesses 3 for receiving kegs while the lower main bearers 2 have similar recesses for resting upon a keg. The bearers 1, 2 are secured by means of bolts 6 and drive screws 7. In an alternative construction of pallet the recesses (3) at the upper and lower side of the pallet are formed in one-piece main bearers, Fig. 3 (not shown), which are each moulded as a one piece in plastics material and have ports (8) spaced therealong in which the wooden cross bearers 1 are received, as well as apertures (9) for receiving the tines of a fork lift truck. The side walls of the ports (8) are tapered at a small angle (α), Fig. 5 (not shown), to permit a limited amount of rocking movement between the main and cross bearers if the main bearers are subjected to shock loading. A pallet may comprise both forms of main bearers.
