Abstract

1,274,752. Load handling pallets; collapsible crates. T. J. KIRKPATRICK. 8 July, 1969 [15 Feb., 1969], No. 8362/69. Headings B8H and B8P. [Also in Division B7] A load handling pallet 1 has upper and lower decks 2, 3 received in channels 13, 17 respectively formed in opposed pairs of side and end members 4, 5. Each side member 4 comprises a pair of channel members 6 joined at their ends by a corner member 7 with vertical grooves 8 to receive the ends of the end members 5 each formed from a one piece channel member with the edges turned over to form the channels 17. Channel sectioned webs 18 are located at each end of the channel of the member 5 and are coupled to the corner members 7 by bolts, for example. Intermediate channel section members 15 arranged between the channel members 6 receive cross beams 21. The decks 2, 3 may be of planked or unitary construction made from chipboard, fibreboard or plastics material. An elongated pallet may be formed by welding the adjacent end members of a' pair of pallets or by providing a tongue and slot construction on adjacent pallets. In an alternative arrangement the side frames are blocked-off and the structure utilized as a crate, which may then be provided with wheels and a tow bar to form a trailer.
