Abstract
1463399 Hairpiece parting section CAFRAN TECHNICAL PROCESSES Ltd 15 April 1975 [5 April 1974] 15293/74 Heading A4V [Also in Division D1] A method of making a parting section of a hairpiece comprises spreading a sheaf of hair 4 over a support, laying a parting section base strip 3 reverse side uppermost across the spread sheaf to leave anchoring ends 23 of the hair projecting from one edge of the strip and free ends of the hair projecting from the other edge of the strip, needling by repeatedly inserting at least one barbed needle 25 through the base strip into the hair over the entire area of the strip intended to carry hair, and withdrawing the needle or needles each time to draw a loop of hair 26 on to the reverse side of the strip, combing the loops thus formed to draw the anchoring ends of the looped hairs on to the reverse side of the strip, and bonding the anchoring ends to the reverse side. The hair and strip 3 are held in place on base-plate 15 by means of clamping bars 18, 20 held by wing nuts 19, 21 on studs 16, 17, the hair being laid on a cushioning underlay 22 to prevent needles 25 from contacting base-plate 15. The baseplate has a flange 15' which is slidable along a buffer held on the table of a sewing machine, and the baseplate is reciprocated across the table under the needles to form a line of loops. The buffer is then moved transverse to the direction of movement of the base-plate by means of a rack and pinion and the process is repeated. The base-plate may be removed from the machine at any time and be combed, the bar 18 being more firmly tightened than bar 20 so that only the anchoring ends of the hair can be combed through, these ends then being fixed with adhesive to the base strip.
