Abstract

1463199 Caissons R M STEPHENS 11 April 1974 [19 April 1973] 16272/74 Heading E1H In a caisson 1 comprising a tubular peripheral wall 32 transverse wall 13 bridges the peripheral wall to define open chamber 34 into which normally closed vent 8 opens at a level below the transverse wall. Fig. 6 shows a shallow caisson designed to support a pylon 19 in a permafrost area subject to a summer thaw extending down to about two feet. Openings 22 are threaded for transmission of fuel spray, compressed air and the effluent of combustion, with the object of attaining an additional three feet of thaw.
