Abstract
1462362 Mixing valves H & D E WATTS Ltd 21 Jan 1974 [24 Jan 1973] 3627/73 Heading F2V A mixing valve has a piston 24 movable rotatably and axially in an insert 8 by a lever 25 a body 2 with a base surface 3 for mounting on a horizontal platform such as the side of a sink, washbasin, bath or bidet, conduits, such as 4, for hot and cold water supply pipes and a discharge spout 17, the piston having an annular seal 48 to engage a valving surface 47 as the piston moves to the closed position. Chambers 10 for hot and cold water are separated by ribs (not shown) transverse to the plane of the drawing and communicate through ports 9 and a semi-circular recess 46 in the piston with a mixing chamber 49 which in turn communicates through ports 42, 44 with the spout 17. The piston 24 is rotated to vary the proportions of hot and cold water and is displaced axially to adjust the total volume of flow. The part of the body containing the insert 8 may be inclined to the vertical (Fig. 7) or may be of frusto-conical shape (Fig. 5).
