Abstract

146,195. Rautenbach, R., [Firm of]. Dec. 3, 1917, [Convention date]. Moulds; cores.-Aluminium pistons are cast in an iron mould a having a central sand core b down the middle of which is a pouring-gate a. Vents d, e are provided and steel bearing-bushes to be cast into the piston are supported by the core at f, g. Metal chills or supporting pieces may be inserted in the core. The method is stated to be applicable generally for castings of low melting-point, such as magnesium or magnesium alloys.
