Abstract

1461908 Disposable diapers SOUTHALLS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd 12 Feb 1974 [14 Feb 1973] 7149/73 Heading A5R A disposable diaper comprises in combination a rectangular flexible waterproof synthetic resin backing sheet 10, an absorbent layer 12 of plied cellulose, and a moisture pervious woven or non-woven surfacing sheet 11, the edges of the surfacing sheet 11 and backing sheet 10 being turned over the edges of absorbent layer 12 and secured together by adhesive, and the side edges 13 of the diaper being gathered midway between their ends by folds ,15 secured by stitching through the side edges or by an adhesive to reduce the length of the side edges and the central width of the diaper and to produce a central pleat 16 in the diaper when the end edges of the diaper are pulled away from one another prior to use, the side edges of the diaper then bowing inwardly to facilitate fitting the diaper to the human body.
