1290017 Disposable diapers RIEGEL TEXTILE CORP 6 Dec 1969 [4 Feb 1969] 28877/69 Heading A3V A disposable prefolded combination diaper and moisture impervious backing generally rectangular in the unfolded configuration, comprises a fluid permeable front cover sheet 11 secured along its transverse and longitudinal edges to the impervious backing 12 and an absorbent interior pad 13 entirely between the front sheet and backing, the side portions (18, 19) of the combination diaper and backing being folded inwardly over the central portion (17) along a first rectilinear longitudinally extending fold line 20 and the outer section of the folded side portions being folded outwardly back over themselves along a second outwardly curved longitudinally extending fold line 21. The front cover sheet is made of cellulosic material comprising hydrophilic, flat, aerated regenerated fibres of collapsed multicellular form and has high dry and wet strengths for the normal moisture in use but disperses when agitated in an excess of water. The pad 13 comprises layers of absorbent creped tissue paper with more sheets in the central portion than in the side portions, or it may comprise fluffed wood pulp. The rubber or plastics &c backing 12 is joined to the front cover sheet 11 by embossing 15 along the transverse edges and by adhesive applied to the longitudinal edges which extend round and overlap at 16 the front cover sheet. On wearing the transverse edges are pulled and extended around the waist of the wearer and held by pins. On disposal the backing is stripped off before the pad and front cover are flushed away.
