Abstract

146,152. Fessenden, R. A. Nov. 29, 1918, [Convention date]. Subaqueous audible signals.-Sound transmitters and receivers are mounted outside the hull of a ship in the space 12, 13, 14 between the prolongations of the side and bottom. For example, an oscillator 16, such as that described in Specification 18765/13, may be mounted in a bilge keel 15. In the receiving arrangement shown at the right of Fig. 1 and in Fig. 2, a tube 17 closed by a rubber bung 21 carrying one end of a nickel rod 22 is supported by struts 18, 19, 20. The circuit 23, 24 of a coil surrounding the nickel rod is taken through the hull. Rubber insulation 26 separates the tube 17 from the holding-ring 25, and a sound-screen 30 may be fitted to shield the device from hull &c. vibrations.
