Abstract

1461151 Light guides STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 22 Aug 1974 36946/74 Heading G2J In a cable comprising optical fibres enclosed in a tubular sheath, the sheath is a loose fit about the fibres so that they and the tube are capable of relative movement. The fibres may occupy e.g. 16%, of the cross-sectional area of the sheath, which is made of thermoplastics material, e.g. polyethylene. Wire or fibre open-mesh braid or tape, e.g. steel or nylon, may reinforce the sheath internally or externally, and petroleum jelly may fill the sheath and surround the fibres.
