Abstract
1460888 Hard plated bolts and studs W H SEWARD 27 Dec 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44257/72 Heading F2H An alloy steel bolt or stud is provided along its entire thread with hard plated chromium. As described the plating is between 0À0001 and 0À005 inches deep and the bolt or stud may be de-embrittled by heating below its temper temperature, preferably between 100-400‹ C. for 2-5 hours. The alloy steel may be chromium/vanadium or chromium/vanadium/molybdenum steel and preferably has a tensile strength of 40 tons psi or more. A nut may be provided of martensitic steel. Alternatively the nut may be of austenitic steel which may be stabilised against corrosion with niobium or titanium or be alloyed with copper.
