1460766 Lamps EMERSON ELECTRIC CO 8 Jan 1974 [23 Jan 1973] 00843/74 Heading F4R [Also in Division E1] A ceiling module comprises four trapezoidal panels 5, each panel having two convergent edges and two parallel edges one of which is longer than the other, said panels being arranged in such a manner that each convergent edge of each said trapezoidal panel is contiguous to a convergent edge of another of said trapezoidal panels, the longer of the parallel edges of said trapezoidal panels defining the rectangular periphery of the ceiling module, the shorter of the parallel edges of said trapezoidal panels defining a rectangular opening, the area defined by said rectangular periphery being at least twice the area of said rectangular opening, and a framework supporting said panels, said framework comprising four sheet metal strips 3 which are vertical in transverse cross-section, each of said strips having an upper edge and a lower edge, said strips being rigidly secured together to form above said rectangular opening the side walls 13 of a rectangular lamp housing for U-shaped fluorescent tubes 99, and said framework including four spines 11, each of said spines extending from a corner of said lamp housing to a corner of said rectangular periphery along and above a line of contiguity between two of said panels, said module further comprising a lamp housing cover 9 mounted on said upper edges of said strips forming said lamp housing side walls. The framework comprises four identical beams defined by said strips each of said beams comprising a lamp housing part 13, a spine part 11 at one end of said lamp housing part and an attachment part 15 at the other end of said lamp housing part, said attachment part being substantially shorter than said spine part. Said spine part and said attachment part each extend at an angle of substantially 135 degrees to said lamp housing part, said spine part of each of said beams being secured face-to-face with a contiguous attachment part of an adjacent beam. Said spine part and said contiguous attachment part are secured to each other by means of at least one extruded hole 33 in one of said spine part and said contiguous attachment part, the peripheral material of said extruded hole extending through a clearance hole in the other of said spine part and contiguous attachment part and being deformed outwardly to hold said beams rigidly together. The panels 5 lie in a common plane to define a flat ceiling area, and mounting means 21 are provided at the outer ends of said spines, above said panels, for mounting said module by its corners above the plane of said rectangle defined by said long edges of said panels. The ceiling module includes four trim rails 7, each being secured at the rectangular periphery of the ceiling module between the ends of two spine parts.
