[Also in Division E1] A modular suspended ceiling comprises light housings, e.g. 60, supported on trapezoidal panels 41, suspended in turn from hangers 57. The housings, which may contain parallel or crossed fluorescent tubes (Fig. 12, not shown, or Fig. 3, respectively), incandescent lamps 901 (Fig. 9) or bulbar electric discharge lamps 1150 (Fig. 11), are ventilated by central perforated plates, e.g. 971 and 1171 (Figs. 9, 11), the air passing into the housings around the edges of the bottom panels, e.g. 985 and 1185. In the example with crossed fluorescent tubes (Fig. 3), corner ballast chambers 74 are employed, and in the incandescent lamp housing, sound-absorbing material is employed on the bottom panel 985, which is perforated. The trapezoidal panels 41 may have plenum chambers, e.g. 1425 (Fig. 14), associated therewith, so that pressurized air may pass from the duct 1429 out between adjacent panels, or alternatively (Fig. 15), through perforations in the bottoms of the panels. Adjacent panels may have hinged flaps 51 (Fig. 3) which may co-operate to control air flow.
