Abstract
1460675 Turbines of exhaust gas turbochargers cleaning SOC D'ETUDES DE MACHINES THERMIQUES 20 July 1974 32263/74 Heading F1G The invention relates to a method of cleaning the turbine of an exhaust gas driven turbocharger in which a cleaning fluid such as water is injected under pressure into the turbine through injection nozzles, the nozzles being supplied with air under pressure during the time when cleaning fluid is not being supplied. In the embodiment two turbines 1, 2 each driving a supercharging compressor, have exhaust gas inlet ducts 3, 4 respectively and cleaning fluid nozzles 5 are provided on the inlet ducts. A reservoir 8 of cleaning fluid is provided, also a source of air under pressure 12 and a changeover valve 11. When the valve 11 is in the upper position air under pressure passes from the source 12 through line 21, ports 19, 18 and line 10 to the reservoir 8 whereby the fluid 9 is pressurized and discharged through lines 7, 6 to the injection nozzles 5. After a period, the valve 11 is switched by the device 17 to the lower position whereby air under pressure passes from the source 12, through line 21, orifice 16 and line 22, through ports 20, 13 and line 14 to the lines 7 and 6, thence through the injection nozzles 5 into the turbine inlet ducts 3, 4, thus ensuring that the nozzles do not become fouled.
