Abstract

1460043 Making shoe soles SHOE & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 4 April 1975 [8 March 1974] 10610/74 Addition to 1295677 Heading A3V [Also in Division C3] Shoe soles made of rubbery ethylene-propylene-diene monomer copolymer are surface treated by contact with a halogen donor and an organic isocyanate in order to increase the adhesion of the sole to a polychloroprene or polyurethane adhesive; the isocyanate may be incorporated in the adhesive composition. Preferably the sole is scoured then treated with trichloroisocyanuric acid solution and then successively or simultaneously with diphenylmethane diisocyanate and a polychloroprene or polyurethane adhesive. The precemented soles can then be adhered to shoe uppers.
