Abstract

1459986 Hand scrapers LOUIS M GERSON CO Inc 27 March 1975 [19 April 1974] 12929/75 Heading B4B A scraper comprises a slide 60 for carrying a scraping blade having a cutting blade 46 and movable in a chamber 13 formed in a casing 10, the slide having first and second spring legs 61, 62, Fig. 7, the leg 62 having a button 63 including locking means 64 adapted to co-operate with first and second cut-outs 51, 52 in the casing, the arrangement being such that when the locking means 64 is engaged with the cut-out 51, the blade is contained wholly within the chamber and when engaged with the cut-out 52 the cutting edge of the blade is exposed through an opening 45 in the casing. The spring leg 61 of the slide is provided with a safety button 55 adapted to engage in a hole 54 in the casing when the slide is in the inoperative position shown in Fig. 3 thereby acting as a safety device. Tapered faces 80, 81, Fig. 4, are formed on the edge of cut-out 52 and on the locking means 64 respectively such that when the blade is exposed and pressure applied to the cutting edge, the faces provide a wedging action to prevent the slide being pushed back into the chamber during use. A spare-blade compartment (20), Fig. 6 (not shown) closed by a hinged lid (30) is provided.
