Abstract

1459490 Lighting fittings VEST GmbH NACHFOLGER KG 27 March 1974 [28 March 1973] 13653/74 Heading F4R A lighting fitting comprises a pair of covers 20, 21 for a light source 15, at least one of the covers being dome-shaped as shown, a retaining ring 10 which secures the covers and has a uniform section over its entire periphery, a plurality of supporting elements 30 by means of which the covers are spaced from and secured to the ring, each cover having a peripheral flange 22 engaging the elements, and an attachment element 40, Fig. 9, which supports the fitting and engages the ring from the outside. The dome 20 is translucent and the dome 21, which is translucent, opaque or reflective, may be replaced by a flat reflector. The ring 10 is circular and is preferably flat with a rectangular section, each element 30 being a flat T-shaped plastics moulding having, at each end of the cross-bar 31, inwardlypointing projections 33 for engagement with the flanges 22 and outwardly-pointing projections 35 for engagement with the ring. The stem 32 of each element projects inwardly between the flanges 22, two of the elements being arranged adjacent one another to support a terminal box 13 carrying a socket 14 for the source 15. The fitting is attached to an adjacent similar fitting or to a supporting means such as a wall plate (61, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) or a cable 53, Fig. 9, by the attachment element 40 which comprises two U-shaped halves 41, 42 each of which has parallel arms 43 and a base 44. Each arm 43 has a pair of projections 46, the projections on one side of the element being adapted to engage the ring 10 and those on the other side being adapted to engage the ring of a similar fitting or tongues (64) on the wall plate (61). The halves 41, 42 are clamped together by a bolt 49 and a nut or threaded sleeve 51. Arrays of fittings can be assembled (Figs. 5-8, not shown) in which some fittings may be replaced by rings supporting flat glass plates. The rings may be of U-shaped section and/or polygonal in plan.
