Abstract

1458458 Fluidized beds T S HARGEST 3 Sept 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 38533/74 Heading A4M Flow of gas to a bed comprising a mass 14 of granular material is controlled by a pump 16 which is actuated cyclically to supply a flow of the gas for a restricted period, preferably about 3 seconds, to provide in each cycle of operation preferably about 10 minutes, a relatively short period in which the mass is fluidized and a relatively long period in which the mass is not fluidized. The pump may be operated to fluidize the mass for a longer period of time by using a switch 40 which over-rides the controls 31-36 which control the cycle of operation.
