901,080. Mattresses &c. TALLEY, H. A. E. May 5, 1961, No. 16369/61. Addition to 762,528. Class 52 (4). In an improvement in or modification of the pad for bed patients of the parent Specification a pressure-sensitive device connected in the air circuit of the cells controls a warning device to indicate lowering of pressure beyond a predetermined limit in any cell during its intended period of inflation. The pressure-sensitive device consists of a flexible diaphragm 36 mounted in a chamber 37 connected in the air circuit by flexible pipes 40, 41 and open below the diaphragm to the ambient atmosphere, a push-rod 35 operating a microswitch 33 to supply current to a warning lamp 31. A modified pressure-operable switch allowing the cut-off pressure during operation to be varied for different weights of patients comprises a chamber 20 and diaphragm replacing the original chamber and diaphragm of the parent Specification, a spring-loaded push-rod 22 coupled to the diaphragm and abutting the lever 23 of a microswitch 24 mounted on a base 25 by means of a pivot 26 and the base 25 has a flange 27 carrying an internally-threaded collar 28 through which is engaged a threaded rod 29 with control-knob 30, movement of rod 29 moving switch 24 to vary the pressure at which the switch is turned on and off.
