[Also in Division B2] In a method and apparatus for drying and cleaning small coal substantially as described in the parent Specification, a pulsing unit 100 is provided in a circuit 101 which is branched from the heated fluidizing gas supply 3 to the lower perforated support 2 in the vessel 10, and delivers the pulsed gas to the vessel above the fluidized bed b and beneath the upper perforated support 1 under valve control at 102. The supply of fluidizing heated gas at 6 below the support 1 is maintained. Similar provision for a pulsed gas supply is described for the apparatus described with reference to Figs. 3, 5, 6 and 7 of the main application and apparatus for achieving this pulsed rate of supply is also described.
