Abstract

1458241 Retractive switches CUTLERHAMMER EUROPA Ltd 25 Feb 1974 [26 Feb 1973] 8496/74 Heading H1N A limit switch comprises an operating head sub-assembly 2 including an operating member 8 linked to a plunger 52, and a switch subassembly 4 including an adjustable switch actuating member 64, actuated by plunger 52 when operating member 8 is operated, the housings 2a, 4a of the sub-assemblies 2, 4 forming a sealed enclosure. Plunger 52 bears on lever 64 supported at one end on adjustable pivot 62 and bearing at its other end on contact actuating button 12. Turning member 8 turns spindle 10 which in one direction, clockwise looking at Fig. 2, rotates cam 22 which pivots lever 32 about pivot 30 to depress stud 40a, stud-head 40, one of plates 42 and plunger 52. A second cam (24), Fig. 5 (not shown) is mounted on spindle 10 at its other end and clockwise rotation of spindle 10 brings cam (24) against pivot 30 or that cam (24) cannot move. Rotation of spindle 10 anticlockwise looking at Fig. 2 causes spindle 10 to rotate in cam 22 until flat 10a on spindle 10 engages nib 22d on cam 22 which urges cam 22 against pivot 30 so that cam 22 cannot move but cam (24) can rotate pivoting lever (34), Fig. 5 (not shown) depressing stud 38, which is similar to stud 40a and stud head 40, to depress the top upper trifurcated plate 42 shown in Fig. 3 to depress plunger 52. Plunger 52 is depressed by the upper or lower plates 42 acting on flange 52a of plunger 52. Plunger 52 is located on a peg 54 the lower part of which is square and the upper part round, the outer arms 42b of plates 42 fitting on one side of flange 52a to retain plunger 52 in sub-assembly 2 and the central arms 42a of plates 42 engaging the other side of flange 52a to depress it. Lifting plunger 52 clear of the square part of peg 54 and rotating it enables flange 52a to be engaged by one or both of plates 42 or that plunger 52 is depressed by rotating member 8 in one direction only or the other only or both. There is a retractive spiral spring (28), Fig. 5, round spindle 10. A sealing gasket 44 terminating in ends 44a is between the two housings 2a and 4a, and there is a sealing gasket 58 round spindle 10 where it leaves housing 2a, gasket 58 forming a pocket, Fig. 4 (not shown) so that liquid attempting to enter tightens the seal provided by gasket 58.
