1458238 Gas washer CHIN KUO CHUNG and HSING SHANG CHEN 20 June 1974 27477/74 Heading B1R A gas washing device for a smoke stack comprises a cylindrical body 40, a liquid distribution disc 20, a draining chamber 42 having a sloping floor 42 and drain outlet 43, a frustoconical cylinder 26 inside 40 and a plurality of longitudinal plate members 30 comprising support plates 31 with corrugated plates 33, 34 (Fig. 6 not shown) attached either side, the members 30 being arranged radially between 26 and 40, the peaks of one member coinciding with the valleys of the adjacent member so as to form respective flues through which the gas passes and having vents 26 to allow upward escape of the gas and a plurality of openings 23 to allow liquid on the disc 20 to fall 'by gravity as a continuous curtain down the outer faces of the plate members 30 so as to wash the upcoming gas in the serpentine flue passages. The washing liquid is pumped from a reservoir into disc 20 where it passes through filter trough 21 provided with filter screen 211 and thence to openings 23. An overflow pipe connects draining chamber 42 with disc 20. The apex 261 of conical cylinder 26 is placed over the smoke stack via support cylinder 44 and serrated outs 262 and peaks 263 are provided near the apex 261 to allow liquid draingage into chamber 42.
