Abstract
1400838 Oil/water separator HOWALDTSWERKE - DEUTSCHE WERFT AG HAMBURG und KIEL 27 Oct 1972 [30 Oct 1971] 49572/72 Heading B1D A oil/water separator comprises a tank 1 divided by a casing 5 into a first settling chamber having a first oil collection zone 18 17 at the top thereof. The second settling chamber 7 having a second oil collection zone 12 at the top thereof. The second settling chamber contains a plurality of oil separators 6 each comprising an array of inclined parallel plates having downwardly extending lips at their lower edges (Fig. 2 not shown). An inlet pipe 8 is provided for each separator 6 from the first settling zone and a corresponding oil outlet pipe 9 is provided for each separator and lead to the first oil collection zone 18. The mixture to the separator is fed to the tank by inlet 2 which branches into a plurality of nozzles 4 one corresponding to each separator 6 and each mounted opposite to its respective separator and separator inlet pipe 6. Separated water is removed over weir 13 and through outlet 14. The separator inlet pipes 8 and oil outlet pipes 9 each have control valves. The tank 1 has gas vents 15, overall oil outlet 10 and drain outlet 16. A heater may be provided in the first oil collection zone.
