1457781 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 3 April 1974 [6 April 1973 (2)] 14834/74 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] A xerographic copier incorporates means by which a naturally-occurring running-out of the sheet supply, which leads to stopping of the copier and lowering of the copy paper feed tray for replenishment, can be distinguished from an operator-caused lowering of the feed tray. Genuine exhaustion of copy paper leads to automatic lowering of the feed tray at a time which is precisely set within a repetitious cycle, but an operator-caused lowering, brought about to stop the machine during what is ostensibly a long run, cannot be so exactly timed, and leads to detection by control circuitry.
