Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable favorable paper supply irrespective of the size of a recording material and contrive higher throughput, by detecting an end part of the recording material by a detecting means provided in the path of the recording material, and controlling the timing for supplying the next recording material. CONSTITUTION:In starting paper supply, a paper-supplying roller 2 is started rotating, and a paper-supplying pad 3 is moved upward by a solenoid. Then, a paper is moved along a feeding passage 5 to reach a paper supply sensor 4, which is turned into a state indicating the presence of the paper. Synchronously with this timing, an optical writing signal 8 is turned ON. The sensor 4 is so positioned as to satisfy the relationship l2>=l3, wherein l2 is the distance from the sensor 4 to a toner image transferring position B, and l3 is the distance along the circumference of a photosensitive drum 6 from an optical writing position A to the transferring position B. When the paper is moved and the sensor 4 is turned into a state indicating the absence of the paper, supply of the next paper is started synchronously with the timing of the state change of the sensor 4. In this case, the minimum paper spacing is limited by the distance l1 between the pad 3 and the sensor 4.
