Abstract

1457576 Making container closures; stamping W C LOVELL and F G J GRISE 11 Feb 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 6158/74 Headings B3A B3Q and B3J [Also in Division B8] An inwardly-displaceable section 16 of a container end is defined by a line of weakening, which is formed in the radial outer leg portion of an inwardly-depressed channel 18, Figs. 5 and 6 (illustrating inverted can end views), and which comprises an integral rupturable web 42 bonded by a pair of faces 44 and 46 in mutual contact. The end is made by pressing a blank between dies 20 and 24, Fig. 3 (not shown), having an annular protrusion and groove to form the channel, indenting the outer leg portion by means of a tool 32 having a cutting edge 34 and central stop 38 to form the web 42 and two mutually perpendicular faces 44 and 46, and flattening the apex of the channel by means of a die 50 to press the faces 44 and 46 into contact.
