Abstract

1516766 Beading foil lids; packaging containers; lids PEERLESS MACHINE & TOOL CORP 9 Sept 1976 [3 Oct 1975] 37428/76 Headings B8C B8D and B8T [Also in Divisions B3 and B5] Material is packaged between a container body and lid both formed from sheet material between male and female dies 20 and 12. Upon full formation of the lid (see Fig. 6) the inner periphery of the edge of the lid and body forming sheets are held fast between surfaces 18 and 34 of the female die and a piston 22 by which the male die is reciprocated respectively. The outer periphery of the sheets is deformed to make a tubular sleeve located between the outer surface of the female die and the inner surfaces of a pair of draw pads 52, 80. The draw pads together define an annular void 90. From this position the draw pads are moved upwardly relative to dies and the piston to cause the free end of the tubular sleeve to be engaged by an upwardly and outwardly sloping frustoconical surface 92 of the lower pad. Consequently the sleeve is buckled outwardly into the void 90 (see Fig. 7) to form a ring to seal the lid to the body of the container. In another embodiment, (see Fig. 4) the edge of a single sheet (102), drawn to form a lid or a container body, is similarly buckled to form a ring 118, which in the case of a lid forms a snapring enabling the lid to be attached to a container body.
