Abstract

1457174 Grain-oriented steel sheet BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP 31 Jan 1974 [5 Feb 1973] 4599/74 Heading C7A A hot-rolled steel sheet containing # 0À35%C and # 3% in total of other alloying elements, the balance being iron, is characterized by a crystallographic texture in which the (111) [110] orientation exceeds 3À5 times random as measured by the nine plane inverse pole figure technique. The structure is obtained by austenitizing the steel and then subjecting it to one or more reductions while cooling between Ar 3 and Ar 1 and continuing the reductions between Ar 1 and 600‹F, each reduction not exceeding 12À5%. In a preferred embodiment one or more additional reductions are initially carried out above Ar 3 . The processing conditions may be such that not more than 60% recrystallization takes place after each reduction.
