Abstract

1456833 Cooling articles HUNKAR LABORATORIES Inc 7 Dec 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 56787/72 Heading B5A A mould and/or an article in the mould, e.g. produced by blow-moulding, is cooled by means of compressed air at a pressure of at least 200 p.s.i. which is then expanded adiabatically so that it thereafter absorbs heat from the article and/or the mould. The air may be introduced into the moulding or into passages in the mould and is preferably at at least 1000 p.s.i. The air may be dry or contain water vapour. As shown, a bottle 3 is blow-moulded in cavity 2 of a mould 1 by air, e.g. at 80 p.s.i. supplied through inlet 5. The mould 1 has coolant passages 6 and sensors 7, 8, 9 to feed the bottle skin temperature and mould temperature to controller 11, which may also be manually set by line 12. A pipe 13 has one end 14 connected with the air source and the other end being forked to two nozzles 15, 16, both preferably variable in the neck of bottle 3 and in passages 6 respectively. Air flow is controlled by pressure setting device 17 and valve 19 controlled by controller 11 and timer 21.
