Abstract

1456611 Chucks FRIEDRICH DECKEL AG 22 Oct 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 45694/74 Heading B3B A tool chucking device comprises a machine tool spindle 2 having a taper 4 for receiving a tool shank 6, a draw bar 16 and a locking member 28 disposed coaxially with, and axially movable inside, the spindle, and a plurality of locking elements 14 located in a locking head 18 at a forward end of the draw bar 16, wherein for locking a tool shank to the draw bar the tool shank is provided with a coupling member 10 and the locking member 28 is movable axially of the draw bar in a locking direction to displace the locking elements 14 radially of the draw bar into a recess or recesses 12 in the coupling member 10 by engagement of said locking elements 14 with a bevelled face 17 of the locking member. Both the draw bar 16 and the locking member 28 are spring biased in one axial direction and fluid pressure driven in the other axial direction. A number of embodiments are described wherein the locking member may be a rod which forces locking balls radially outwards to lock within a sleeve coupling member, or a sleeve embracing the draw bar which forces the locking balls radially inwards into a recess on a pin coupling member. The locking member may move towards the shank, or away from the shank, during locking, and the draw bar and locking member may be either spring locked and fluid pressure released, or pressure locked and spring released. In one embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the cylinder for the locking member is attached to the draw bar. The draw bar on its releasing movement ejects the tool from the spindle.
