Abstract
1456387 Dispensing liquids BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 24 April 1974 [8 May 1973] 21883/73 Heading A4T A monitoring system e.g. for use with liquid fuels comprises metering means 11, 22, 33 connected to a storage tank 5, 6, including means 10 for storing information regarding the quantity of liquid in the tank 5, 6 and a liquid level sensor 8, 9 in the tank 5, 6 for triggering the storing means 10 as the level in the tank falls past the sensor 8, 9. Preferably two tanks 5, 6 supply respective dispensing pumps 1, 3, a third pump 2 supplying a mixed grade. When the tanks 5, 6 are full, fuel dispensed by the pumps 1-3 is metered by counting pulses from pulse transmitters 11, 22, 33, whose outputs are fed to totalizing means in an electronics unit 10, which may transmit information to a central inventory control point (not shown). When the level in the tanks 5, 6 falls below the levels indicated by the sensors 8, 9 each corresponding to a predetermined remaining quantity of liquid, the totalized outputs of the respective transmitters 11, 22, 33 at that point are recorded and stored in the unit 10. Thus, as dispensing continues, the quantities remaining at any time can be indicated from the stored value, the instantaneous totalized putput, and the predetermined quantity.
