Abstract

1457884 Filling tanks L DILGER 19 Feb 1974 [26 March 1973] 14317/73 Heading B8T Apparatus for dispensing liquid comprises a delivery nozzle 13, and means for regulating the flow of liquid to the nozzle, means operable to initiate the flow of liquid, a first detector 20 responsive to a predetermined level relative to the nozzle of delivered liquid to generate a first electric signal, and means responsive to said first signal to inhibit delivery of liquid by the regulating means for the duration of the signal and to terminate delivery of liquid to the nozzle when said duration exceeds a predetermined value. The means for regulating the flow comprises a pump/metering system 11 actuated by a control means 22. The control means comprises a discriminator consisting of an input circuit 40, AND gates 42, 43 and a delay gate 44, and a sequencing means for the flow rate consisting of a shift register 32 and a bi-stable switch 31. When the detector 20 detects liquid, it triggers the switch 31 into its reset position and delivery ceases. If a surge rather than true level has been detected, then after a predetermined time, the delay gate 44 transmits a signal via the AND gate 42 to trigger the bi-stable switch into its set position thus shifting the register 32 through one position to produce an output 37 which corresponds to a reduced flow rate. If a second surge occurs, a similar process takes place and a dribble flow rate is established corresponding to output 38. The delivery is permanently cut off by the AND gate 43 transmitting a signal from the detector 20 to the register 32 after the predetermined time, indicating a full tank, and thereby shifting the register 32 to its initial position I, with no output from 36, 37, 38, thus ceasing the delivery. A second detector 50 may be added, primarily to detect when the container is full.
