Abstract

1,236,817. Automatic fluid level control system. DISTILLERS CO. (YEAST) Ltd. June 11, 1969 [June 20, 1968], No. 29514/ 68. Heading G3R. Rise of foam to a predetermined level in a fermentation vessel causes operation of a pump to add a predetermined quantity of foam suppressing agent. As described, when foam in a fermentation vessel rises into contact with an electrode at a predetermined level, a circuit is completed between the electrode and the vessel to operate a transistorized relay. If this operation persists for a period determined by a short time delay relay, a reciprocating pump is operated pneumatically to dispense a single dose of anti-foam agent into the vessel. The amount dispensed is determined by adjustment of the stroke of the pump. The pump is operated at intervals until the foam level falls and an alarm is operated if this does not occur within a period determined by a long time delay relay. Further operation of the pump is prevented when a counter registers a number of operations equal to the number to which it is set. Pilot lamps indicate various conditions of operation and a switch is provided for manual control of the pump.
