Abstract
1456106 Measuring displacement electrically ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 30 Sept 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 42307/74 Headings G1M and G1N A sensing device for measuring the surface variation of a workpiece (e.g. gear teeth) comprises a probe 16 connected to an arm 20 pivoted in bearings 101, 103 so that movement of the probe in direction 19 causes an actuator ball 22 to contact one of two L-shaped members 23, 24 either of which by movement about spring-hinge pivots 108, 118 and acting through U-shaped member 26 impart a similar motion 21 to a differential transformer 18 irrespective of the direction of the displacement 19. To protect the device against excessive movement adjustable stops 90, 92, 94, 96 are provided to limit the angular motion of the arm 20 and the probe 16 (fixed in a support member 14) is held in contact the arm 20 by a spring 50 which allows the probe to move resiliently. After removal of an excessive load, support member 14 is repositioned in a conical seating 58, 60.
