Abstract

1455602 Supported olefin polymerization catalyst NIPPON OIL CO Ltd 4 Feb 1974 [9 Feb 1973] 05052/74 Headings C3P and C3S Olefins are polymerized using a catalyst comprising (a) an organo-metallic compound and (b) a titanium and/or vanadium compound supported on a solid carrier which is the reaction product of (i) an anhydrous magnesium dihalide, (ii) silicon tetrachloride and (iii) an organic hydroxy compound. Examples refer to the polymerization of ethylene or ethylene propylene, using hydrogen, in hexane, and catalysts comprising (a) Et 3 Al or Et 2 Zn, and (b) (i) MgCl 2 , (ii) SiCl 4 , and (iii) EtOH or phenol or mixtures thereof or the monomethylether of glycol.
