Abstract

alpha-Olefins, esp. propylene, are polymerised to stereoregular polymers in presence of catalysts obtd. by reaction of (a) an addn. and/or substn. prod. of an electro-donor (or lewis base) with a trialkylaluminium or with an alkylaluminium cpd. contg. is not 2 AI atoms linked by N or O, with molar ratio Al cpd. : electron donor 1:0.01-1, and (b) the prod obtd. by contacting a Ti (II), Ti (III) or Ti (IV) halogen deriv., pref. as an addn. prod. with an electron-donor, and a support consisting of anhydrous di halide of Mg Mn and an organic solid which does not react with any component of the catalyst specific; of this prod. and of this support is >3m2/g, or the most intense X-ray powder diffraction lines, characteristic of the X-ray powder spectra of normal non-activated dihalides of Mg or Mn, are wider; also, the Ti content of this prod. (B), expressed as metal, is 0.3 (0.1), esp. 0.05-0.005 g. atoms/mole of electron donor combined in the catalyst. The content of Mg or Mn halide in the catalyst can be reduced without lowering the stereospecificity of the catalyst.
