Abstract

1455568 Bowden mechanisms BOWDEN CONTROLS Ltd 17 April 1974 [17 Jan 1973] 2510/73 Heading F2K The flexible conduit 1 of a Bowden cable has secured thereon a flexible sleeve 5 comprising a single helically wound strand (22) (Fig. 4, not shown) or helically interwound strands 6, 7 (as shown) forming an external screw-thread along which a lock nut arrangement 14-16 may be adjustably screwably positioned for mounting the Bowden cable assembly on a bulkhead or plate 12. As shown, the interwound strands 6, 7 form a square thread whilst in Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) alternative thread forms are constructed from interwound strands of differing cross-sections. Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown) illustrate various alternative forms of the lock nut arrangement for securing the cable assembly to the plate 12. The flexible sleeve may be swaged (as shown) at 8 to the conduit 1 or may be secured thereon by adhesive. It is stated that the conduit 1 has a higher tensile modulus than the sleeve 5. The conduit 1 may be constructed as a long-lay tube formed of coarse pitch wires of metal and/or plastics material.
