Abstract
1455317 Rolling tubes NIPPON KOKAN KK 2 May 1974 [19 June 1973] 19212/74 Heading B3M A method of rolling a tube from a hollow shell in a continuous rolling mill comprises reducing the speeds of successive stands as the trailing end of the shell passes through the mill, in order to prevent wall thickening of the final part of the tube. The shell may be rolled in eight stands while supported on a mandrel, the roll speeds initially being as shown in curve 1. If the speed of the shell corresponds to that of the rolls in stand 3, for example, the speed control starts when the trailing end of the shell has just left stand 2. At this moment the speeds of the following two stands are reduced, as seen in curve 2. Similarly, when the trailing end has passed any given stand, the speeds of the next two or three stands are reduced until the position shown in curve 5 obtains.
